The emergence of COVID-19 as a global pandemic crisis needs collective actions among stakeholders in order to address the problem which is threatening humankind. The outbreak of COVID-19 poses many challenges to governments in combating the disease, some of the notable challenges include; a lack of personal protected equipment for health workers as well as inadequate basic hygiene materials such as soaps and sanitizers.
Therefore, CASEE as a development actor joined government efforts in the fight against COVID-19 by implementing humanitarian projects in the Longido, Karatu and Arusha districts. The project aimed at strengthening mechanisms for combating coronavirus. Some of the activities carried out were; the provision of medical equipment such as protective clothing, helmets, gloves, face shields, goggles, masks –N 95, surgical masks, provision of hygiene products such as soaps and installation of hand washing facilities, designing and posting of health promotion materials or Information Educational Communication Materials (IEC) on COVID 19. These included banners, brochures and leaflets (The materials were tailored based on the government and WHO guidelines). Other interventions were a public awareness creation campaign through public announcements in the Longido district and Karatu district.
