On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China and declared it as a global pandemic problem. Tanzania like many other countries reported the first case of COVID-19 on 16th March 2020 in Arusha.

The emergence of COVID-19 as a global pandemic crisis needs collective actions among stakeholders to address the problem which is threatening humankind. The outbreak of COVID 19 poses many challenges to governments in combating the disease, some of the notable challenges included; lack of personal protected equipment to health workers as well as inadequate of basic hygiene materials such as soaps and sanitizers.

 

Therefore, CASEE as a development actors complemented joined government efforts in the fight against COVID 19 through implementing humanitarian project in Longido, Karatu and Arusha districts. The project aimed at strengthened mechanisms for combating corona virus. Some of the activities carried out were; provision of medical equipment such as protective clothing, helmets, gloves, face shields, goggles, masks –N 95, surgical masks, provision hygiene products such as soaps and installation of hand washing facilities, designing and posting of health promotion materials or Information Educational Communication Materials (IEC) on COVID 19. These included banners, brochures and leaflets (The materials were tailored based on the government and WHO guidelines). Other interventions were public awareness creation campaign through public announcements in Longido district and Karatu district.
