The project main objective is to prevent the spread of trachoma in the project area through utilization of WASH facilities, improved best hygiene practices (including facial cleanness) and environmental hygiene in schools, at household and community levels. The project has four main areas of interventions, these include School WASH, School Led Total Sanitation (SLTS); Social Marketing and School Curriculum.

This project implemented facial cleanness and environmental improvement (F&E interventions) of the WHO-SAFE strategy which focus on eradication of trachoma globally by 2020. Some of the key activities carried out included provision of hand washing facilities in schools, community awareness on the importance of good hygiene and sanitation practices, as well as review of school curriculum to assess pupils learning on hygiene practices.
